Georgian College Food Service Worker Jobs – Jobs Description
Located in Orillia and under the direction of the Operations Manager, the incumbent is responsible for all aspects of food preparation, food controls and quality control for The Den. Responsibilities include understanding and adhering to all safety, sanitation and administrative procedures. The incumbent has limited supervision over student staff. The incumbent will provide instructional guidance with regard to safety procedures and proper food preparation practices. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Preparing food portions for daily usage
- Receiving and completing food orders from The Den staff
- Ensuring that all menu items sold in The Den meet quality standards
- Ensuring quality control of all items prepared for sale in The Den
- Supporting Chef with Onboarding of new staff at semester start up and where required, in the absence of Chef, demonstrates tasks and work flow and processes, provides functional guidance to staff in relation to food preparation and safety standards adhering to department SOPs, specs and guidelines
- Ensuring that food safety standard specs are adhered to
- Following specs and ordering
- Preparing food, portion control and cooking of food required for each event
- Adhering to department inventory guidelines to Purchase food products from suppliers
- Conducting monthly inventory counts
- Monitoring food supply wastage daily
- Ordering weekly supplies / food and drink inventory requirements based on par levels set by Chef and Operations Manager
- Ensuring all equipment is in working order and each unit is at the correct temperature
- Sanitizing kitchen before and following each shift to ensure compliance with all sanitation guidelines and standards.
- Providing functional guidance to staff regarding sanitation standards by ensuring department checklist is distributed and followed
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of Secondary School
- Five years experience in a fast paced a la carte restaurant operation i.e. Line Cook
- Ability to work within a team environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to coach, guide and support others
- Basic computer knowledge/skills (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Online ordering)
- Ability to pre-plan in creating an organized work environment
- Ability to multi-task effectively
- Strong attention to detail skills
- Completion of a recognized Food Handlers Certificate is an asset
- Previous lead role experience is an asset
- Previous experience in ordering supplies / inventory counts in an asset
